JAMES E. REYHER LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP

In honor of Navy Diver James E. Reyher, we are establishing a scholarship fund to continue his legacy of integrity, strength, and service. This fund will support driven individuals who reflect James’s commitment to excellence and perseverance, helping them pursue their own paths with purpose and determination.
JAMES E. REYHER'S LEGACY:
ND1 James E. Reyher was a man of honor, dedication, and compassion who had an extraordinary impact on his community, family, and the Navy Diving community. Born in Cambridge, Ohio, and raised in Caldwell, James graduated from Shenandoah High School in 2003 and later earned a degree from Hocking College in 2007. In November 2007, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) before reclassifying to the elite and challenging role of a Navy Diver in May 2008.

James quickly distinguished himself through his expertise, leadership, and commitment to excellence. He rose to the rank of Navy Diver First Class in 2013 and served in pivotal roles at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit Two. Throughout his career, James led critical diving operations, trained fellow divers, and contributed to missions that demonstrated his technical skill and dedication to service. Among his notable accomplishments were training Royal Thai Navy Divers, contributing to Naval archeology missions, and serving on the Battle Damage Repair team.

James earned multiple honors, including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the Navy Good Conduct Medal, and the Diving Salvage Warfare Specialist qualification. His legacy reflects his deep sense of duty, his commitment to his teammates, and the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him. He's remembered as an honorable, caring, and loving man who lived his life with a deep sense of duty and a heart full of compassion.

The James E. Reyher Legacy Scholarship celebrates James's memory by supporting individuals who embody his values of perseverance, service, and integrity. Through this scholarship, applicants are encouraged to honor his legacy by pursuing their goals and making a meaningful difference in their communities.
MORE INFORMATION:
ELIGIBILITY
Direct family member of an active or former Navy EOD Operator or Navy Diver and pursuing further education. Connection to Ohio preferred.​
AMOUNT & RECIPIENTS
Up to $2,000 will be awarded based on number of applications received, submission essays, and elibility.

Recipient Announcement: Beginning of May 2025
FUNDING
The James E. Reyher Legacy Scholarship is funded through contributions from the James E. Reyher Man of Honor 5k, NSOF Gifts, and annual fundraising campaigns.
